Our Story

In 2008, Noel's Place began operating. It started with a small location that operated within a 280 square foot building. Owner, Robert Noel Syrette, had a vision of developing a one stop establishment that offered a variety of products and services. In the beginning, the core business venue was "R" Smokin' Store. In 2009, a Fish and Chip stand was added to the venture. In 2010 a much larger 360 square foot infrastructure was developed to accommodate growth and the demand of food services. The original structure was expanded to house the convenience store, kitchen and the restaurant, as well as, a dining room, at the time to accommodate 24 patrons.

By the fall of 2010, exclusively due to customer demand and continued success, another addition was built. Chummy's Grill was branded an opened in June 2011, with the ability to house 48 patrons. In the fall of 2011, the dining room was expanded once again and could accommodate a total of 60 patrons.

We have become a local tourist attraction, as we have a vast array of beautiful and life-like carvings. We have several spaces that showcase the extraordinary carvings by the late Pete Ryan, who starred in Television shows such as "Carver Kings" and "Saw Dogs". We have been selected as a feature in Porter Airlines Brochure, and also have a presence on Travelocity, Trip Advisor, Google Reviews, and the Sault Ste. Marie Travel Guide.

We believe in holistic teaching among our staff. Staff are participating in and learning about traditional food preparation alongside community members. Including hunting, cleaning, butchering and smoking.
